Life Lessons on Responsibility
My philosophy on taking care of family members
is like the pre-flight instructions before
takeoff. “Should the cabin lose pressure, an
oxygen mask will drop from the overhead area.
Please secure your mask before assisting
others.”
Your situation may be like mine. With us, a
cancer report from my father-in-law (and then my
mom) triggered our move back to NWA from
Atlanta. It was an easy decision. On the job
front, the money was good, but 80-hour weeks,
redeye flights and days of back-to-back meetings
had begun to takes its toll. We thought I would
work another 5 years in the “corporate world”.
But plans change.
My wife and I are both fortunate to have had
great parents. And, we positioned ourselves
financially so we could be helpful. Now, we’ve
reached a stage where it is our turn to be
supportive, not financially, but in other ways –
fixing things, rearranging furniture, trips to
the doctor and so forth.
So, when I advise my clients, I go to great
lengths to cover the “what-if’s,” the possible
outcomes, and implement strategies so they are
positioned to assist their loved ones. |

You’ll Find Me Outdoors: Fly Fishing &
Snow Skiing
In my Library: An extensive collection of
outdoor adventure and survival stories; I’m
fascinated with how sailors, mountaineers and
outdoorsmen get themselves into and (hopefully)
out of perilous situations. Since I assess risk
for clients daily, these narratives offer
valuable insight into decision-making,
consequences, and wits.
Best Investment Advice I Have Ever Received:
“Don’t invest when the pressure is on you;
invest when the pressure is on the Company.” |
