“Family First” is Universal
I was fortunate to grow up knowing both sets
of my grandparents who happened to live very
different lives. My maternal grandparents owned
a small grocery store in the Chicago suburbs,
while my paternal grandparents were farmers in
western Kentucky. Growing up in the South, I
always enjoyed visiting them and experiencing
extended family, friends and the colorful
culture of each.
Interestingly, observing these very diverse
cultures served to amplify the qualities they
shared. Hard work, honesty and respect for one’s
elders come to mind, as do putting family first.
Whether I was chasing lightening bugs at night
in Paducah, or walking among the skyscrapers of
Chicago on Christmas Eve, I was always aware
that our family is our most valuable asset.
Today, I’m able to share these lessons with my
family, and incorporate these values into the
advice I provide clients. Successful investing
is always a goal, but the returns are hollow if
we fail to protect our family’s needs, goals and
dreams with proper financial planning. |
